Leading Technology

In 2015 and thanks to a generous donation Danesfield School have made a substantial investment to become the leading primary school in the area for technology.

We have two brand new ICT suites, touch screen laptops in  years 5 and 6 that are connected to the projector for peer learning and tablets in years 1-4.

We have visited schools nationally to look at best practice and developed a strong relationship with Microsoft Education and will be a case study school.

We are investing in ongoing high quality training for all staff and will be providing our children with lots of exciting ways for them to use technology across the curriculum and develop their programming skills.

Sport at Danesfield

Through our PE curriculum we develop children’s skills and lead them towards playing the following sports: football, netball, rugby, hockey, endball, cricket, rounders, cross country, swimming and athletics. School teams are developed outside of the teaching time allocated for PE. Each class will have one indoor session per week for educational gymnastics and dance, and an outdoor session for games skills. Danesfield regularly participates in inter-school competition with a high degree of success. Sport is seen as a valuable outlet for children’s energy and enthusiasm. Children are encouraged through PE to lead a healthy life and we actively promote physical activity as a means of achieving this. We consider it important that all children have the opportunity to develop their sport skills and participate in team activities, be they house teams or school teams. Teachers are encouraged to bring their own sporting experiences into school to benefit the development of children’s skills and attitudes. Sportmanship is seen as an important ingredient in children’s education.

The Arts at Danesfield

The Arts are actively promoted at Danesfield both in and out of school time. Art programmes of study offer children a wide range of experiences using different materials and techniques. Music lessons cover composition, singing, appreciation and playing of instruments. The peripatetic provision in school is excellent with a wide variety of instrumental tuition available. An orchestra and choir operate weekly and music concerts, which include soloists, are performed for parents. Music is seen as a valuable means of enhancing learning and, as such, we encourage children to be involved as much as possible. Drama is experienced within the classroom and also when school productions are staged for parents. Children have many opportunities to perform in front of an audience and gain confidence from the experience. In addition, children have cultural experiences and opportunities by visiting theatres, concerts, museums and galleries. Local visits are also arranged to enable children to appreciate their immediate environment and the architecture it contains. Within school, visitors such as artists, authors, theatre groups and musicians regularly come to talk to or perform for the children.

After School Activities

We engage with children to discover the type of after school activities they would like to be involved in. There is a huge variety of clubs on offer including music, drama, sports, technology, pottery, cooking, forest school, languages and ‘fun’ games. A full list is available under the clubs/activities section.

Inspiring Environment

Danesfield is set within a beautiful woodland environment. We are extremely fortunate to have very large outdoor areas, including a dedicated Key Stage 1 playground and outdoor learning space, offering a variety of play opportunities with hard surface, play equipment, grassed and woodland areas. The separate Key Stage 2 area includes a large playground with a greater variety of equipment including a timber ‘fort’ located in a wonderful wooded part of the grounds. The whole school makes use of an extremely spacious playing field to the rear of the school for sporting activities. We also have a wildlife garden with woodland trail, bug hotel and seating area.

We believe our children benefit enormously from having such excellent outdoor opportunities.
