Danesfield is set within a beautiful woodland environment. We are extremely fortunate to have very large outdoor areas, including a dedicated Key Stage 1 playground and outdoor learning space, offering a variety of play opportunities with hard surface, play equipment, grassed and woodland areas. The separate Key Stage 2 area includes a large playground with a greater variety of equipment including a timber ‘fort’ located in a wonderful wooded part of the grounds. The whole school makes use of an extremely spacious playing field to the rear of the school for sporting activities. We believe our children benefit enormously from having such excellent outdoor opportunities.
Inside the School, we have good size classrooms, which are well equipped with learning resources and technology, which we are constantly striving to improve. Indeed, ICT is an area of the school that has recently been the focus of much improvement, and will continue to be so as we understand the essential nature of technology in our children’s lives going forward.
In 2011/12 we opened our new Lewis wing, which houses Years 5 and 6 in brand new, light, spacious classrooms with dedicated break-out areas for small group teaching. The new classrooms are well equipped, and give our senior students a first class environment for their final years at Danesfield.
In 2012, we have also opened our new Key Stage 2 library, which is a large, quiet space overlooking woodland, where children can choose from a first class selection of books, managed for us by the Buckinghamshire Libraries Services. We have access to the very best of children’s literature, which is regularly reviewed and refreshed.
In 2014 we commenced a refurbishment program to our second hall space. The long term vision for this area is that it will provide a multi-purpose space for curricular and extra-curricular activities. The first phase of works were completed in the Summer of 2014 to enable the space to be used at lunchtimes for the provision of Hot School Meals to KS1 alongside our catering contractors Dolce.
We continue to strive to enrich the learning environment for our children in partnership with our wider community. In the Summer of 2014 Danesfield House Hotel installed kitchen gardens into the KS1 playground areas; we have also benefited from an RBS community grant for the enhancement of play equipment.
